How to Turn Off Incoming Voicemail Messages While Still Playing a Greeting

There may be times when you want callers to hear a voicemail greeting but prevent them from leaving a message. This guide will show you how to configure your Vumber number to play a voicemail greeting and end the call without allowing the caller to leave a voicemail.

To disable incoming voicemail while still playing a greeting using the Vumber app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Vumber app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Hamburger menu icon located at the top corner of the screen.
  3. Select "My Numbers" from the menu options.

  1. Press "Configure" next to the number for which you want to set up the voicemail.

  1. Navigate to the "Call Forwarding" option.

  1. In the drop-down menu under "Where would you like to send this call?", select "Play an Announcement".

  1. Under the announcement settings, you can:
    • Type a Text-to-Speech Announcement: Enter the text you want callers to hear when they reach your voicemail.
    • Upload a Pre-recorded Audio File: Choose an existing audio file to play as your voicemail greeting.

  1. Your call forwarding setup is now complete. After the announcement plays, the call will end without giving the caller an option to leave a message.

To disable incoming voicemail while still playing a greeting using the Vumber dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account at https://app.vumber.com.

  1. Select "My Numbers" from the menu on the left.

  1. Press "Configure" next to the number you want to modify.

  1. Choose the "Call Forwarding" option from the menu.

  1. In the drop-down menu under "Where would you like to send this call?", select "Play an Announcement".

  1. Under the announcement settings, you can:
    • Type a Text-to-Speech Announcement: Enter the text that will be converted into speech for your voicemail message.
    • Upload an Audio File: Upload a pre-recorded voicemail greeting

  1. Once configured, your Vumber number will play the greeting and then end the call, preventing callers from leaving a voicemail message.

You can always choose to configure a normal voicemail greeting if you'd like to receive voicemail messages. However, using the "Play an Announcement" feature will prevent any incoming voicemail messages from being recorded. For added convenience, you can create a message that states "The mailbox is full" if you want to inform callers of this status.
